ARNHALL Day Nursery in Dunblane has been praised in a joint inspection report by HM Inspectorate of Education and the Care Commission.

Key strengths found during the inspectors’ visit included: caring, respectful relationships between staff, children and parents; the outdoor environment that provide many opportunities for children to learn about the natural world; parental satisfaction with the service; and staff teamwork.

Some recommendations for improvement were made.

These included that staff should improve pace and challenge in all aspects of learning to meet the needs of all children, and that planning should be more responsive to children’s interests.

They added: “Staff should also improve opportunities for children to be independent and active in their learning and the head of the establishment should improve her leadership of the learning and approaches to self-evaluation to focus on the quality of children’s learning experiences.”

The centre and the education authority have been asked to prepare an action plan indicating how they will address the main findings of the report, and to share the plan with parents.
